Molecular Characterization of the Common Snook, Centropomus undecimalis (Bloch, 1792) in the Usumacinta Basin

چکیده

The common snook is one of the most abundant and economically important species in Usumacinta basin Gulf Mexico, which has led to overfishing, threatening their populations. main goal present study was assess genetic diversity structure along River order understand population dynamics conservation status species. We characterized two mitochondrial markers (mtCox1 mtCytb) 11 microsatellites basin, divided into three zones: rainforest, floodplain river delta. data showed very low diversity, showing some haplotypic differences between rainforest delta zones. In contrast, we consistently recovered clusters with nuclear both DAPC STRUCTURE analyses. These results were consistent AMOVA analyses, significant among previously by STRUCTURE. terms distribution, zone corresponded diverse according data, suggesting that this a transition basin. Our support relevance molecular characterization monitoring fishery resources at better connectivity, could help management.

SHORT COMMUNICATION: Effects of salinity on growth and survival of common snook Centropomus undecimalis (Bloch, 1792) larvae

Common snook Centropomus undecimalis, herein referred to as ‘snook’, are a stenothermic estuarine ¢sh found in the tropical and subtropical waters of North and South America (Rivas 1986). In Florida, adult snook spawn primarily in the spring and summer months from April through September (Taylor, Grier & Whittington 1998). Spawning events occur at inlets and tidal passes of estuaries and along ...

Correction: Spawning Site Selection and Contingent Behavior in Common Snook, Centropomus undecimalis

Reproductive behavior affects spatial population structure and our ability to manage for sustainability in marine and diadromous fishes. In this study, we used fishery independent capture-based sampling to evaluate where Common Snook occurred in Tampa Bay and if it changed with spawning season, and passive acoustic telemetry to assess fine scale behavior at an inlet spawning site (2007-2009). S...

Ontogeny of suction feeding capacity in snook, Centropomus undecimalis.

The ontogeny of suction feeding performance, as measured by peak suction generating capacity, was studied in the common snook, Centropomus undecimalis. Suction pressure inside the buccal cavity is a function of the total expansive force exerted on the buccal cavity distributed across the projected area of the buccal cavity. Thus, the scaling exponent of peak suction pressure with fish standard ...

Genetic variability of the common Snook Centropomus undecimalis (Perciformes: Centropomidae) in connected marine and riverine environments.

The Common Snook, Centropomus undecimalis, inhabits riverine and marine areas of Southern Gulf of Mexico, where it is subject to intense use and exploitation. It has been reported that the genetic identification of fish stocks constitutes a valuable tool for wild population management; nevertheless, there is no available information on the genetic identification on fish stocks of this species i...
